Newly released body camera footage shows the moments leading up to a fatal police-involved shooting in Brownsville.

On May 13, officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who said the father of her children had threatened to kill her. She met police in the lobby of 108 Christopher Ave. and led them upstairs to her apartment.

New body camera footage released by the NYPD shows officers James Humpf and Jeffrey Cattani entering the apartment behind the woman.

Inside, they encountered 25-year-old Damon Louther.

Moments later, Louther can be seen pulling a kitchen knife from his waistband and rushing toward the officers.

Officer Cattani deployed a Taser, but Louther continued advancing. Officer Humpf then fired two shots, striking Louther in the chest.

Louther was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD says an internal investigation is underway to determine whether the officers’ use of force was justified.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office is also reviewing the case, as required by law in all incidents involving police and civilian deaths.
