A neighbor of the convicted stock swindler from Armonk, who disappeared before he had to report to prison, claims he did not commit suicide but escaped.
The man, who refuses to disclose his identity for fear of losing his job, says he is certain an RV that allegedly served as the getaway vehicle for Samuel Israel III sat in a parking lot of his work place in Armonk for 24 hours before his disappearance.
He says he did not give the vehicle much thought until he saw a picture of the RV on the news in connection to the story of the disappearance of the convicted stock swindler.
Israel has been missing for nearly two weeks. He vanished shortly before he was supposed to begin serving his 20-year sentence.
His GMC Envoy was found on the Bear Mountain Bridge - with the words "suicide is painless" etched into his window. But after a search, the authorities labeled him a fugitive.
Israel's girlfriend, Debra Ryan, posted $75,000 bond in White Plains after being charged with allegedly helping Israel make his escape using an elaborate scheme with the RV, which they parked at a rest stop on 684, and a scooter.
Police continue to search for Israel. Ryan is due back in court on July 11
