Nearly 20 alleged Bronx gang members indicted in South Bronx shooting investigations

A group of alleged gang members, including several teenagers as young as 14 years old, are facing charges after prosecutors say they carried out a string of shootings that terrorized South Bronx neighborhoods over the past year.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced Monday that 19 alleged gang members have been indicted following a 13-month investigation known as “Operation Red Zone,” which officials say targeted a network responsible for driving gun violence across the borough.
Authorities say the defendants are tied to four rival street crews accused of carrying out 13 shootings between 2025 and 2026, leaving four innocent bystanders injured.
“We are here for the latest chapter of relentless tragedy of youth violence in the Bronx,” Clark said during Monday’s announcement.
Investigators say the lengthy operation focused on four gangs operating in the South Bronx: McKillville, DTH, OT3 and the FOE Street Crews.
Officials say surveillance video captured several of the shootings, showing alleged gunmen using Citi Bikes to quickly flee scenes after opening fire.
Law enforcement officials recovered 12 guns during the investigation.
According to prosecutors, gang members coordinated attacks through text messages, shared weapons and used social media platforms to boast about acts of violence.
One incident highlighted by prosecutors involved a mother and her young son who were nearly struck by gunfire while outside their vehicle.
“In the video surveillance, a mother and her young son were getting into the car and they experienced shots flying over them and she pushed her boy inside the car and laid on top of him and you can see the panic on her face,” Clark said.
Officials say many of those charged were between 14 and 17 years old and now face charges including attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Investigators allege that older gang leaders recruited younger members and pressured them into carrying out shootings to gain status within the organization.
“The 28-year-old ordered his boys to shoot rivals to be risk takers and to get their feet wet and they did so to be elevated in the gang and win their leader’s favor,” Clark said.
Prosecutors say the arrests represent a major step toward reducing gang violence that continues to put Bronx communities at risk.
“This takedown is significant to address the gang violence putting our community in danger,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
According to officials, 10 of the 19 defendants have already been arrested and arraigned, while six others are awaiting arraignment. Three suspects remain at large.
Prosecutors also say the alleged leader of one of the gangs was taken into custody last week after investigators say he was found in possession of a loaded handgun.
