The National Guard, federal firearms agents and the local police department's bomb squad descended on a Pelham Manor home after thousands of rounds of live ammunition and machine guns were found there.
The home's former owner, 65-year-old Edward Giaimo, passed away recently. The arsenal was found in storage units under the house as Giaimo's family attempted to get the home appraised.
The weapons and ammunition surprised the family, including his 92-year-old mother who is the current owner of the house.
Giaimo was a licensed dealer, and officials say the stash is legal. Authorities say the family did the right thing by notifying them in order to safely remove the stash.
Police expect to return to the residence Friday to continue removing ammunition.
