A patch of bubbles that apparently looks like boiling water was spotted on the shores of the Hudson River in Haverstraw.

The mysterious bubbles were caught on camera Wednesday morning by a Garnerville resident taking photos of wildlife.

The patches showed up outside of the Bowline Point Thermal Power Plant, causing him to fear it's connected and could pose an environmental concern.

"Methane gas or something not good for our environment, for the fish, for the wildlife," says Owen Cramsie, of Garnerville.

He said the bubbles were about 20 to 30 years along the shoreline at low tide and emitted no smell. But because of the close proximity to the power plant, he alerted environmental watchdog nonprofit Riverkeeper.

Riverkeeper contacted the Department of Environmental Conservation, which News 12 has learned is now investigating.

A county spokesperson said crews visited the site of the bubbles Thursday and did not see the phenomenon but plan to return Friday at low tide.

News 12 also reached out to GenCo, which operates the plant, and is awaiting a response.
