After years of political bickering, failed partnership deals and even a lawsuit, the multimillion-dollar makeover of Rye Playland is now underway.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says a much-needed facelift of the 90-year-old park will begin this year. In fact, construction is already going on near the shoreline.
Work was held up after the city of Rye sued the county over who was the lead agency on the construction project there.
As part of the deal with management partner Standard Amusement, the county will invest $30 million for improving structures, refurbishing rides and other capital projects.
Visitors to Rye Playland will see five new rides in 2019 with more to follow after that, including the Revolution 22 and the Windstarz.
The old favorite Dragon Coaster will still be around, and the familiar fountain in the front of the park will also get a makeover.
Rye Playland will open for its 89th season on May 13. The park will remain fully operational during the construction phase.
