The city that never sleeps is shutting down overnight subway service starting Wednesday.
The closures between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. are meant to give the MTA time to disinfect every train at least once per day.
It's the first scheduled shutdown of the New York City subway system since it started running in 1904.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says alternate transportation, like buses and vans, will be provided to essential workers for free.
Metro-North trains will also now be cleaned daily without any service disruption.
