The MTA will be holding a series of public hearings across the city over the next two weeks before the company makes a decision on a proposed subway fare price hike.
The MTA is considering two proposals. The first would raise base fares from $2.50 to $2.75. Single fares would be $3. As a bonus, commuters would get an 11 percent bonus for putting $5.50 on a MetroCard.
The second proposal would keep prices the same, but there would be no bonuses for putting cash on a MetroCard.
Under both proposals, unlimited 30-day MetroCards would go up $4.50 to a new price of $116.50.
