City leaders, police officials and students came together Monday night to talk about ways to end violence in Mount Vernon schools.
After several recent fights at Mount Vernon High School and a shooting near the school, many people are looking for a solution to the problems of violence and gangs. During the meeting attended by more than 70 people, the mother of a shooting victim spoke out and asked that the community work together to find a solution.
Coleen Frazier?s son was shot by another teen near the high school on March 9. ?I?m very concerned not only about my child, but this could happen to any one of your children,? Frazier said.
The meeting?s main goal was to brainstorm ways to solve the problem of violence in schools. Many urged parents to become more involved and to talk to their children. School officials are planning another meeting, but no date has been set yet.
