A local business has been broken into twice within a two-week time span.
Several months ago, the restaurant was highlighted when a bartender saved a choking woman's life.
The owner of Cafe Spiga now tells News 12 she was in the hospital getting a hip replacement and her alarm went off on her phone as she watched the robbery happen.
Gina Giordano says the first break-in and burglary resulted in $20,000 in damage and cash taken.
"He was really quite destructive, bashed down doors and threw the registers on the floor...," Giordano says.
On Wednesday night, someone broke through a window, rummaged around the restaurant but got away with nothing.
Giordano says there was no money left in the store at the time, but he turned on his phone's flashlight and looked around.
She says that other businesses have also been burglarized in the Mount Sinai area and that police are on the lookout for whoever targeted her business.
Giordano says people who live in the area should be vigilant of their own property.
"Just be careful, don't leave any money in your cars and keep your doors locked at home because they are out there and they are around," Giordano says.
The owner says she will no longer be leaving any cash in the registers after locking up and plans on adding more security.
