Contractors are still waiting to be paid for work they did on a Mount Vernon facility that has yet to be completed.
In April 2013 the city broke ground on a state-of-the-art, million-dollar emergency operations center at Station No. Three, where police, firefighters and other service members could work together during emergency situations.
However, two and a half years later, the center is nowhere near complete.
The main contractor on the job, Andre Wallace -- who also just won a seat on the City Council -- is still owed $150,000 from the city.
Mark Warren, the city's buildings commissioner, says the city had cash-flow problems and cost overruns for the project. He says Wallace and the other contractors should be paid in next year's budget.
City officials say they don't know when the center will be completed. In addition to the $1 million they received from the federal government, they say they still need another $500,000 to complete the project.
