Mount Vernon tenants fearful of young adults using their apartment complex to smoke, drink, burn paper & throw trash

Tenants at the Randy Daniels at Grace Plaza Apartment Complex in Mount Vernon tell News 12 they're scared for their safety every time they leave their apartments.
Resident Maxine Jenkins says she feels like a prisoner in her own home.
"I'm an elderly lady, I shouldn't fear for my life in a building, I'm paying rent to stay in," she said.
She says she's been scared to leave her 850 square-foot apartment since September, when she says, out of nowhere, young adults, many of them high schoolers, began to use the apartment complex as their personal living rooms all day and night.
"Even as their own personal bedroom. They smoke the drugs, they drink, they burn paper, they smoke cigarettes," she tells News 12.
And she's not the only tenant who's been dramatically impacted.
"They be in the hallway throwing trash all over the floor. It's just, I'm not safe," said Theresa Reed, who's living in the building for two years.
They say the security in the building is a disaster, "They're here for a paycheck," explains Jenkins.
So out of desperation, they contacted Mount Vernon police.
News 12 reached out to the Mount Vernon Police Department but did not hear back.
