Some kids in Mount Vernon are saying 'thanks' at a special Veterans Day ceremony to honor the men and women who have fought for our country.
More than 300 students at Traphagen Elementary School in Mount Vernon waved flags, sang and danced to honor local veterans. Every year veterans are invited to the school for the performance.
The children also read poems and essays about what Veterans Day means to them.
"Many of us wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the veterans, and they're very brave," says one student.
Robert Campbell, a veteran who served our country back in the 1960s, has grandchildren who go to the school. They invited him to this ceremony.
"A lot of men didn't come back, and it was really hard; and for the young kids to recognize and to honor us, it's humbling," says Campbell.
