? Community leaders are calling on all volunteers to step up on the Martin Luther King holiday.
In Mount Vernon, about 100 people gathered outside a tent at City Hall for an event that symbolizes sharing and prayer.
The program included an audio display of excerpts from King?s speeches as well as a community breakfast.
Residents gathered together to remember the fallen civil rights leader?s inspiration and have noted that this year?s holiday takes on added meaning because it is the day before President-elect Barack Obama?s inauguration.
