Police in Mount Vernon are waging a crackdown on prostitution in the city.

Three undercover women officers, dressed as prostitutes, arrested 13 men for allegedly soliciting sex near the area of West 1st Street and 14th Avenue. Many residents consider that neighborhood a problem area concerning prostitution. Police say the arrests are a start but want to move to get the prostitutes off the streets entirely.

The 13 men arrested are facing misdemeanor charges for patronizing a prostitute.
