Mount Vernon Police Department reports shortage of gas amid tension between city comptroller, mayor

Mount Vernon's city comptroller insisted just last month she had complied with a court order to pay outstanding bills to two of the city's fuel vendors - but the Mount Vernon Police Department says it's still dealing with a low supply of gas.
According to Police Commissioner Glenn Scott, the police department was reduced to a ration system to procure fuel for police vehicles.
He says, "temporary arrangements had been made at a local gas station for refueling.”
City Comptroller Deborah Reynolds blames Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, saying it's her job to order fuel for Mount Vernon's Department of Public Works, police and fire departments.
The mayor's office has a different take on the situation, saying the comptroller is not paying the city's authorized gas vendor when invoices were submitted to her to do so.
