Mount Vernon police continue to search for a killer after a fatal stabbing in the city.
A memorial with dozens of candles has been set up near the corner of Union Avenue and East Third Street where the attack occurred just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police haven't released much information about the cause of the stabbing, or the identity of the 37-year-old male victim. He was taken to an area hospital with multiple stab wounds, but died as a result of his injuries.
Some people in the area say they knew the victim and are frustrated because they claim this area is a hot spot for crime.
Community Advocate Jessie Van Lew told News 12 the victim was “a good guy who didn’t deserve this.”
Mount Vernon's mayor released a statement saying in part that they will do everything in their power to bring those responsible to justice. They are asking for the community's help - anyone with information on the crime is asked to reach out to police.
