Two people were fatally shot early this morning in Mount Vernon, police say.

The Mount Vernon Police Department says the shooting occurred just after midnight at 137 S. Fifth Ave.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of their families.
