Hundreds gathered at Mount Vernon's Grace Baptist Church to celebrate a special milestone on Wednesday.

Reverend Franklyn Richardson has served as senior pastor for 40 years.

Yesterday's celebration included worship and a host of guest speakers. Members say Rev. Richardson's leadership is what makes the church thrive. "He means the embodiment of a man who is a shepherd that was sent; 40 years with a vision and a congregation that responded to that vision, and made everything happen to be where it is today," says Deacon J.W. Smith.

The 40th anniversary celebration continues through June, with musical concerts, a jazz night, and special Sunday speakers.
