A Mount Vernon mother says the body of her 24-year-old daughter was found outside of her family's home on Tuesday.
Police received a call about 7 a.m., and when they arrived at the home on Summit Avenue, they found Alexandria Castano’s body lying inside, just beyond the front door of the multifamily home.
Alexandria's mother, Lucia Castano, tells News 12 she and her daughter were preparing dinner when Alexandria left abruptly around 8 p.m. on Monday.
Castano says about a half hour later, her daughter texted that she was coming home. However, Alexandria never returned and she didn't answer her phone.
It wasn't until police arrived the next morning that Lucia Castano realized her daughter was dead.
Castano says she doesn't know who called the police after discovering her daughter's body.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy to determine the cause of her death.
There are no current plans for Castano's funeral.
