Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard revealed that she underwent a medical procedure because of a health incident she experienced last week.
Patterson-Howard said she felt exhausted while at work last Tuesday. When she arrived home, she could not catch her breath and her husband rushed her to the hospital, where it was discovered she had an acute pulmonary saddle embolism.
She underwent surgery and she said she is now doing much better.
Patterson-Howard thanked everyone on a social media post for their support.
"I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your incredible thoughts, for your prayers, for your well wishes, for your calls for your texts for your flowers, for your fruit and just for all your expressions of love and support I received over the last week," she said.
Patterson-Howard added that she is back at work on a hybrid basis.
