Mount Vernon mayor: City is cautious, but prepared for snow
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas said Sunday that the city was prepared for the impending snow.
Thomas stopped by the city's DPW yard Sunday to go over last-minute storm preparations, telling News 12 they feel ready for the forecast ahead.

"We finally have now 10 snow trucks running, and we're working with the school district to make sure we add more capacity so we're ready to fight the storm,” said Thomas.
Thirteen of the city's snow trucks had to be fixed after police reported latex gloves were stuffed into their gas tanks - right before a snowstorm in mid-February. Despite the setback, Thomas said work had already been done to prep the roads.

"The hills are salted and sanded, as well as we have our trucks ready to go down the dead-end streets, but most importantly is that our school district is working with us to help us around the schools on the side streets,” he said.

Thomas said the city would do everything it could to keep the roads clear enough for Monday's school day, as well as for commuters.
He suggested staying in and working from home if possible.
"Be cautious. Whenever you see inclement weather, just be cautious. Go get some bacon, eggs, milk, bread, make some French toast tomorrow if there is a delay and enjoy that time with your family,” he said.
