After a 15-year wait, the pool inside Mount Vernon High School was reopened Monday.
Mount Vernon Superintendent Kenneth Hamilton and Assemblyman Gary Pretlow attended the ribbon cutting for the pool that cost nearly $3 million to renovate.
Although the pool was closed for such a long time, the community is ready to not only swim in it, but learn as part of the Aquatic Program rollout.
Beginning in January, the program will include community open swim, a lifeguard course, a high school club swim team later in the year, aquatic physical education classes and a learn-to-swim program.
The pool is expected to be heated soon.
