The city of Mount Vernon honored one of their own: Coach James Rowson, batting coach for the Yankees.
On Thursday, city officials gathered to award Rowson with a city proclamation at Brush Park for outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of professional baseball.
Rowson tells News 12 it’s a privilege to be celebrated in his hometown and talk to kids who want to play professional baseball.
"Just knowing this is where it started, this is where it came from and again, if you dream big, big things can happen and you just want to continue to send that message to the youth,” he said.
Dozens of kids were able to ask questions about his career and get a batting lesson from Coach Rowson.
