While there is no snow in the immediate forecast, Mount Vernon's Department of Public Works is getting an early start on preparing for it.
The department outfitted trucks with plows and took them out for a test drive Friday.
Mount Vernon has three new trucks added to the fleet, and all of the trucks are outfitted with GPS equipment.
"We now have the newest fleet of trucks in the state of New York, the irony is a few years ago we had the worst fleet," said Mount Vernon DPW Commissioner Damani Bush.
Bush said he decided to start snow preps early because of the recent rain.
"Quick math, for every 1 inch of rain equates to 10 to 12 inches of snow," he said. "So, with the amount of rain we've been accumulating over the past couple of weeks, we know that it might be a heavy winter coming up."
Mount Vernon has 500 tons of salt on hand, all of it left over from last season when the city saw record-low snow totals.
This year, the Hudson Valley could see as much as 2 feet as predicted by AccuWeather meteorologists.
