The Mount Vernon Knights cheerleaders are making history!
The squad traveled to Florida where they'll be competing in the 2023 National High School Cheerleading Championship for the first time in the team's history.
Many are excited to be in Orlando, and for some, it's their first time visiting the sunshine state.
But as they embark on this historic adventure, their hearts are heavy - filled with thoughts of the cheersister - Kayla Green - who won't be with them. "I know cheer is a big part of all of us just remembering Kayla, and trying to continue her legacy as the excellent scholar-athlete that she was. And I know performing in Florida, Kayla is the only thing on our minds," says former cheerleading captain Heaven Cunningham.
Green, who was the JV captain, was stabbed to death last year.
