Mount Vernon police say they arrested four people Tuesday after seizing a cache of illegal weapons, ammunition and drugs from two apartments.
Heavily armed Mount Vernon police and Yonkers Emergency Services Unit officers raided apartments at Park Avenue and East Sidney Avenue. People in the neighborhood say they were shocked to hear that guns, including machine guns, were taken from two separate buildings. Police arrested Dana Stevens, Jawwad Abdul-Halim and Islam Abdul-Halim, from Mount Vernon, and Shantel Andrews, of Yonkers.
Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says the serial numbers were scratched off the weapons. Chong says the department will examine the guns in detail to try to determine if they were used in any recent crimes.
