An attorney and civil rights advocate is throwing his hat in the ring for Westchester's top law enforcement job. Mount Vernon Democrat William Wagstaff, in his first television interview this morning, announced his candidacy for Westchester district attorney to News 12 senior reporter Tara Rosenblum.
Wagstaff is aiming to succeed outgoing District Attorney Mimi Rocah, who recently opted not to seek reelection.
Describing himself as a “social justice” advocate, Wagstaff has been a prominent figure representing Black Lives Matter and numerous families in high-profile civil rights cases.
While others have expressed interest in the position, Wagstaff is the first official candidate in the race. Should he win, he would make history as the county's first Black district attorney.
