More than 100 people came to Mount Pleasant Town Hall Tuesday to voice opposition to the county?s plan to move a drop-in homeless shelter to the town.Town of Mount Pleasant officials and residents say the county should find another location for the shelter that was temporarily in White Plains. The county wants to build the $2 million shelter on Route 9, near the county police headquarters. However, officials say there is already a homeless shelter in Mount Pleasant that is 2 miles from the proposed shelter site, which would be in violation of a county agreement. County officials admit they didn't properly measure the distance between the two sites. Even though they say they are not going to break that agreement, they will try to renegotiate.
An attorney for the town says he plans to vigorously oppose the plan for the facility.
