A Monroe man says he was stuck for six hours after his car skidded out on Route 17A in Warwick.
Pete Alquiza, 66, says 911 didn’t respond to his numerous calls until after midnight.
County officials say they are not sure what happened in Alquiza's case, but that responders were overwhelmed and handling incidents on a priority basis.
They say they received more than 2,000 calls for help amid 500 crashes.
It wasn’t enough to quell Alquiza’s frustration.
"There was no response. No coordination. There were no plows on that road, but cars were coming in and out," he says.
Officials say the road Alquiza took was closed and the county was in a state of emergency.
