Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and one mother-daughter duo from Westchester is taking action to make sure you start your mornings cleaner and healthier. From original white to multi-grain, whole wheat and cinnamon swirl, you can try all kinds of sourdough English muffins by Olivia and Denise Weale.
"After trying a sourdough English muffin from a friend, we decided that we could never go back to buying English muffins from the store again," said Olivia. "They were just so good. We started making them at our house and gifting them to friends and family for the holidays. They all kept coming back [saying], ‘Oh my gosh, these are so good. How can we get more? How can we get more?’"
The pair knew the universe was sending them a sign to start their own business after they stumbled upon a Thomas' English Muffin container on a walk.
"My mom was looking for something entrepreneurial in the food space to get back to her culinary roots," Olivia said.
"I started in 2017 in my home kitchen and started selling at farmers markets to do proof of concept," Denise explained.
They soon launched their wholesale business, Dam Good English Muffins, a nod to their Westchester roots.
"It references the new Croton Dam right here in Cortland, New York, where we got our start," Olivia explained. "We think that as we continue to grow into larger retail chains…it is equally as important to maintain really close relationships with our home base, to have a presence here and to continue to grow here as we expand."
As the years have gone by, their customers have grown to include both those in Westchester, as well as others throughout the nation.
" Not trying to brag, but people love them," Olivia said. "That's why they keep coming back, and that's why we're able to continue to grow [with] our production is increasing as a result."
"I think the term that they use is, 'I'm addicted,'" Denise said.
Dam Good English Muffins can be found at stores like Wegmans, Whole Foods and other independent retailers throughout the region. They also ship nationwide if you buy online.
