An alleged Monticello drug trafficker has been charged with murder in the high-profile, 8-year-old case of a missing Sullivan County woman.
Dwayne Johnson, 46, is accused by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office of fatally shooting 31-year-old Shaniece Harris, of Rock Hill, in 2017 as part of a marijuana drug-trafficking operation.
The New York FBI is asking the public to come forward with information about possible crimes involving Johnson by calling tips at 212-384-1000 or tips.fbi.gov.
The details of the five-count indictment were released by the feds on Wednesday. Authorities say Johnson shot Harris on or about May 29, 2017, inside a residence near 5 Maple Tree Lane in Monticello in retaliation for Harris losing Johnson's marijuana.
It’s not clear if her body has been found, but a source tells News 12 that the FBI was looking for her remains in the Town of Mamakating in Sullivan County.

Neighbors tell News 12 that Johnson lived at that location and say they remember authorities raiding the home in 2023.
According to federal officials, Johnson, an alleged long-time trafficker in the Sullivan and surrounding areas, was previously taken into custody in May 2023 on controlled substance and firearms charges after approximately 30 firearms were seized during a search warrant of his residence.
“This brutal murder shows the harsh truth that drug trafficking and violence go together, and drug trafficking poses incredible dangers to communities throughout New York,” says U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “We hope this prosecution brings some measure of peace to the victim’s loved ones.”
Johnson is also facing federal weapons and drug charges.
He could face the death penalty or life in prison if he is found guilty of the top charge of murder.
