A bear sighting in the village of Montebello has neighbors on high alert.
Resident Linda Anders says the bear sauntered through her yard during the daytime.
Anders says she is surprised that she has never seen a bear in her backyard because other neighbors have seen them. She says the bear walked into the woods, climbed a tree and went over the fence to her neighbor's yard.
She advises to "keep your eyes out, and if you see one, leave it alone."
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation suggests removing bird feeders, securing garbage cans, cleaning grills and eating areas, and not feeding any bears.
Anders tells News 12 that despite the danger, she is still curious about the bear and hopes it's OK.
"I'd like to see it again. I've been kind of looking out the window all day hoping for another spotting," she says.
