Monsey supermarket to bring donations to Houston
A Rockland County supermarket is pitching to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
On the loading dock at the Evergreen Kosher Market in Monsey, food, water, and dry goods are all packed up and ready to be trucked down to Houston.
Organizers of the relief effort are hoping the donations from customers will play a part in helping thousands of victims. "Everyone wants to help, from the higher-up management, to middle-management, to the employees over here. Everyone's willing to help out, even if it costs them time where they are here not on the clock,” says Mattis Steinvert, of the Evergreen Kosher Market.
Steinvert, who's helping organize the drive, says he's thankful for how generous customers have been with their donations, remembering how it felt after this area was devastated by a natural disaster a few years ago. "When we had Sandy, we needed help as well and we were just really grateful. It gives us an opportunity to give back."
