The Monroe community mourned the loss of an FDNY firefighter at his wake Tuesday – the 200th to die from a 9/11-related illness.
Richard Driscoll was a Vietnam War veteran and firefighter from Engine 91 in East Harlem. He retired in 2002.
His wake came on the same day that the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund passed in the Senate. It’s expected to be signed by President Donald Trump.
Fellow members of the FDNY say it's a relief to know his family will be taken care of.
"Words can't even describe what that's going to mean to so many firefighters that were injured and sick from Sept. 11 and are continuing to get sick and injured,” says Andrew Kolesar, of Engine 91.
Richard Driscoll’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe.
