Monday marked the busiest shipping day of the year for the United States Postal Service.
More than 600 million parcels were expected to pass through post offices and shipping centers around the country.
Yonkers residents say they were expecting around-the-block lines and painfully long waits, but they wound up being pleasantly surprised.
Workers at the post office in downtown Yonkers say that with more people shopping online, the wait to ship has been pretty short. They also say a lot of the packages received came from third-party vendors such as Amazon.
Postal workers say they are prepared to get packages out and delivered in time for the holidays.
