The Mario Cuomo Bridge was lit orange Friday night for National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
People also gathered at the Village of Nyack Memorial Park ahead of a weekend of awareness.
Many residents wearing orange showed up at the park with blankets and chairs.
This event was organized by 'Moms Demand Action' a non-partisan Second Amendment organization.
They wanted to highlight how gun violence affects the communities near home.
On Sunday, people will be walking across the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge in support of gun safety. Two groups will be crossing the bridge – one from the Westchester side and one from the Rockland side. Both groups will meet in the middle.
The event will start at 9 a.m.
