Most government offices and public facilities are closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, officials said.

Post offices and libraries are among the closures for the holiday. Alternate side parking rules are suspended, but parking meters remain in effect. Drivers are advised to feed the meters to avoid tickets.

Trash collection by the Department of Sanitation is also on hold and will resume Tuesday, officials said.

Subway lines and the Staten Island Railway are operating on a Saturday schedule. Bus service is running on a modified weekday schedule, with special schedules for some express routes.

Officials said riders can check for updates through MTA sources.
