Residents are celebrating the New
Year and the state's minimum wage officially being raised to $12.50 an hour.
In Westchester, workers saw a
one-dollar boost to $14 an hour.
Business groups had initially
called on the state to delay the hike, saying that the pandemic has severely
affected businesses. But state officials say workers are also hurting and need
the extra boost.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted the
gradual increase to $15 dollars an hour in 2016.
Minimum wage in Westchester will
reach that $15-mark next December 31st.
