Some workers in New York are going to be making more money thanks to a statewide minimum wage increase that went into effect Jan. 1.
Minimum wage for workers on Long Island, in New York City and Westchester County increased to $16 an hour.
The rate for the rest of the state increased to $15 per hour.
News 12 spoke with the owner of Phil's Pizza & Restaurant in Syosset who said the only way to pay his employees more is to pass the increase on to customers.
"Unfortunately, the consumer's the one that pays for things when they go up... you can't expect to pay somebody $16 an hour to wash a dish and then not pay $4 for a slice of pizza," said Anthony Laurino.
