A TikTok video showing two staff members in the Middletown School District is raising controversy after the women were seen dancing to a rap song with references to drug dealers and the N-word.  

Some of the lyrics say, “You know those drug dealers, gamblers, rappers all sound like my type.” Another part includes the N-word. 

The district is now investigating the video and says the staff members are no longer in contact with students. 

Superintendent Amy Creeden sent a letter to parents Wednesday about the social media conduct saying, “The video is disturbing to view. The use and/or representation of reprehensible racially charged language will not be tolerated.”  

News 12 spoke to four people in town who said the behavior was unprofessional.  

“That’s a bad example toward the kids. We try, if anything, to do better for kids now. Especially in schools - in high schools, middle schools,” said Millie Santos. 

Other people posted on social media saying the district is overreacting and that the video is being taken out of context.  

An online petition says one of the staff members is suspended and asks people to sign it to help the woman keep her job.   

District officials won’t say if the employees are off the job or what school building they work in, only that they’re committed to making sure staff “do better.”
