More than 50 Yonkers taxi drivers traveled from Manhattan to Yonkers and back Thursday as part of a memorial ride in honor of a slain colleague.
Pericles Salas, 32, was fatally shot Sunday during a robbery on Jessamine Avenue. Fernando Mateo, president of the Livery Cab Association, blames Salas' employer, Mexicana Taxi Services, for failing to step up security and sending drivers into dangerous neighborhoods.
"His life could've been saved if he had a partition or [a] camera," Mateo says.
On Monday, Yonkers taxi drivers launched Operation Safe Cab, placing stickers on livery cabs that call for improved work safety.
