A 10-year memorial was held Thursday for Army Sgt. Christian Engledrum.
The NYPD and FDNY honored the life and service of the 39-year-old with a Mass in Throgs Neck. The husband and father of three lost his life on Nov. 29, 2004 when he drove over an explosive while serving in Iraq.
His aunt told News 12 that he first served as an NYPD officer. Engledrum then became a city firefighter and was one of the first responders on Sept. 11.
He later joined the military.
Engledrum's family and the FDNY say it is important to remember those who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
