Repair work is underway at the Sports Underdome in Mount Vernon after it collapsed during the weekend storm.

A small army of people were given the task Monday of removing hundreds of pounds of snow from the collapsed bubble roof of the 72,000-square-foot sports center.

The inflatable seven-story bubble roof starting slowly collapsing this weekend, and by Monday the roof was as flat as a pancake with snow piled high.

While the complex is usually filled with children playing on its four indoor fields, no one was inside when the roof collapsed.

The owners of the facility are facing scrutiny by Mount Vernon's mayor, who has questioned why the owners made no apparent effort to clear the snow before the roof collapsed.

Workers used snowplows, shovels and wheelbarrows to clean up the snow, but some say the "collapse" may have been "by design."

"I think this was done on purpose. I think this was a move that they have to do every year so they don't ruin the bubble, so it won't tear like it has before," says contractor Richard Anglori.

News 12 tried to contact the owner about the roof collapse , but she refused to talk.
