A brush fire broke out midday Thursday in the Town of Blooming Grove.
The fire started on Round Hill, right behind Round Hill Elementary School, in Washingtonville.
No evacuations were ordered, but some people who lived close to the fire left as a precaution.
The Orange County Fire Services coordinator says that as challenging as the elements have made the fire, it could have been worse.
"We do have a slight wind and dry vegetation. It's expanding slowly. Fortunately, it's not rapidly spreading. The wind isn't that heavy," says Vini Tankasali, Orange County Fire Services coordinator.
The assistant fire coordinator for Orange County says they hope the fire will be 100% contained overnight.
As of 10 p.m. Friday, it was about 80% contained and covered around 80 acres.
Earlier on Friday, it came within 100 feet of homes.
Firefighters plan to be back in the area around 7 a.m. Saturday.
