State police are investigating a crash on I-84 in the town of Montgomery that killed a Massachusetts man Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators say the crash happened around 3:06 p.m. on Oct. 21 near Exit 28 westbound.
A 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer was slowing for traffic in the right lane when a 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van traveling in the same lane failed to stop and struck the rear of the truck’s trailer, according to state police.
The driver of the van, 71-year-old Kevin Cantwell, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 47-year-old man from Springfield, Massachusetts, was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
