The Mario Cuomo Bridge was lit up in gold Tuesday to recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The Pediatric Cancer Foundation hopes that going gold will help send a message to policy makers that pediatric cancer research deserves more funding than it currently receives.
Right now, only 4% of federal funds are going toward pediatric cancer research.
It's a number the foundation believes could decrease because of the ongoing pandemic.
