March weather broke records. What's next?

March (and winter as a whole) will be remembered for the incredible rain. Every climate site reported more than twice as much rain than normal this month. That's more than what's expected in the typical March and April combined.

An old proverb says, "March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb," but March 2024 was busy with weather from start to finish.
Every single day in early March brought warmer-than-average temperatures, and three days had heavy rainfall. Although major cloud cover brought cooler temperatures for the rest of the month, it still was one of the warmest ever in all our major reporting sites across the tri-state.
How warm was March?
Every site reported temperatures at least 5 degrees above average.
How Wet Was March?

March 2024 was the wettest on record in Islip and Bridgeport.
How about April?
Although the first week of April is cold and gloomy, a total pattern switch is expected next week. Temperatures will trend above normal with rainfall below normal. Multiple days will reach the 60s with 70s also possible.
April is expected to be warmer and wetter than average overall, according to the Climate Prediction Center's latest outlook issued on March 31.
