An NYPD deputy inspector from Rockland County has been indicted for covering up a drunk driving incident in an NYPD vehicle, according to the Manhattan district attorney.
Officials say 44-year-old Paul Zangrilli allegedly allowed a person he was dating, Nikole Rupple, to drive his unmarked NYPD-issued vehicle after both had been drinking for several hours.
Authorities say Zangrilli was in the passenger seat when Rupple was driving the car and struck a delivery vehicle. Rupple and Zangrilli fled the scene. Zangrilli drove that same department vehicle while intoxicated later that night, according to officials.
The officer allegedly lied about the incident and attempted to erase the video evidence. Zangrilli now faces multiple charges including tampering with physical evidence and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
