Police are asking for the public's help to catch the person who fatally shot a man at his Mount Vernon home Saturday.
Police say someone shot the 31-year-old on South First Avenue. One witness says the victim ran down his driveway and took his final steps into a neighbor's yard, where he begged someone to call 911 before collapsing. The neighbor placed a sheet on him and tried to comfort him before police arrived.
Officers blocked off the home shortly after 7 p.m. during their investigation. The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of his relatives. The man died from his wounds at a nearby hospital.The incident left neighbors stunned. "I've been here for 32 years," says Debroah Viruet. "This is the first violent thing I can recall here."
